Press Fit Simulation

There are two approaches for performing a press fit simulation, referred to in this document as “Pushing” and “Interference”. In the case of “Pushing”, the simulation is performed by pushing one part into the other. In the case of “Interference”, the two parts are assumed at their final position but with penetration still present between the two parts in the mesh and the penetration is resolved by the solver automatically. The two approaches are illustrated using a simple example as shown below, using three levels of penetration : 0.01, 0.025 and 0.05. Nonlinear implicit static analysis was performed using Altair OptiStruct version 2020.1 with an elastoplastic material (MATS1).
