Hello,

I am trying to simulate a torsion case in radios block 110 format using hyperworks 12.0

I am getting errors for incompatible kinematic conditions and model inconsistency. The screenshots for the same are attached here.

Kindly let me know about the solution.

Thank you.

    Hi Gopal,

could you please let us know what is the material and property are you using?

Also, please check whether /PART card is assigned to component(S) or not.

    Hello,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Material type is elasto plastic and material card image is Johns_Zeril.

Yes I have assigned PART card to the components. I have made two more components each one of which contains a rigid body. Is it necessary to assign them also PART card image . I have not done so as they are rigid and will not make any effect with material or properties.

    Hello,

The property used is of SURFACE type with card image of P1_Shell.

    Hi Gopal,

So you have a component with mesh and you card edited and made is it as rigid. Is my understanding correct?

That is the correct way. You have to give the component a PART image and make assign property and material.

Here is a tip and trick which tells how to make a structure rigid: http://www.altairuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Make-a-structure-rigid-for-RADIOSS.pdf

    Hello,

I first made a component without any card image and other properties. The made that component as current and then made rigid body element using 1 D rigids and thus this element goes into the component.

In the images attached earlier , it is showing that an element is missing but on checking with the find option using ID I can see the element.

    Gopal,

If the error is referring to a rigid element (RBE) then it should work without any PART card image, material and property assigned to it.

Can you update the element type (RBODY) in 1d>> Elemtypes>> Rigid>>RBODY, select elements, click update.

    Hello,

There is no error coming with RBE element.

I have send the starter and engine files of the simulation from email ID: gopal.singh@icat.in

    Hi Gopal,

can you remove the master_elems set in your model and run the model?

    Hello.

Master elements was defined for defining the contact between the two sheet metals. Removing them will result in rigid body mode as the two plates will not have any contact. Kindly let me know for the same.

    Hi Gopal,

in your model I dont see any contact interface. Please confirm,.

    Hi,

It is defined in the group as tie_ contact.

    Hi Gopal,

The error is because of the element group definition.

When you review the master_elem set only QUAD elements are displayed and not the tria elements.

By definition of GRSHEL which is a shell group, is a set of 4 node shells (only)

    Hi,
I have attached an image here where I can see the tria elements are also selected. Kindly confirm for the same.

    Gopal,

Please review and check the element set group.

From help you can see that GRSHEL considers only 4 node shell elements and if there are any trias, an error will pop up.

For tria GRSH3N is used as card image.

    Hi,

Yes it is not taking tria elements. I have checked it in help also. However I have both tria and quad elements so shall I go for SURF as card image and select surfaces (for master) for defining the contact.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the support.

I was able to run the simulation. For torsion I have used the boundary condition named: initial velocity around an axis applied to rigid body node. There was no option of making any curve for the function. Thus will it be taking a constant angular velocity throughout the simulation. Kindly let me know for the same.

    Hi Gopal,

Try Imposed velocity instead, around an axis.

    Hi,

I checked in the boundary conditions manager but could not find imposed velocity about the axis. Initial velocity about axis is available which I have tried but the results were not as expected. Actually I want to apply an angular velocity to nodes on one side of the beam which is basically the torsional load acting on the beam and keeping the other end of beam fixed.

    Hi,

I was making spot weld connector which requires a property to be assigned to it. Considering the weld properties to be same as the material but what type of card image to be used for the same. I am using radios block format 12.0

    Thank you.
