Tensile tests are used to evaluate the mechanical properties of a material such as the modulus of elasticity, yield stress, and ultimate tensile strength.
The goal of this article is to showcase and compare the different element formulations and types in OptiStruct explicit with Radioss and experimental data. The following studies were performed:
- Different element types and formulations were evaluated:
- Shells: Belytschko-Wong-Chiang with Flanagan-Belystchko stiffness form hourglass control and full integration
- Solids: Uniform reduced integration with Puso hourglass control and full integration
- Comparisons have been conducted between OptiStruct, Radioss, and experimental data
This article includes:
- 1 ready-to-use OptiStruct tensile test model for each element type/formulation
- Altair OptiStruct version is 2023
- The unit system is in kg, mm, ms
- 1 session file to output results efficiently for each element type/formulation
- A report with a detailed description of the model and the results of the study
