The goal of this article is to showcase and compare the different element formulations and types in OptiStruct explicit with Radioss and experimental data. The following studies were performed:

  • Different element types and formulations were evaluated:
    • Shells: Belytschko-Wong-Chiang with Flanagan-Belystchko stiffness form hourglass control and full integration
    • Solids: Uniform reduced integration with Puso hourglass control and full integration
  • Comparisons have been conducted between OptiStruct, Radioss, and experimental data

This article includes:

  • 1 ready-to-use OptiStruct tensile test model for each element type/formulation
    • Altair OptiStruct version is 2023
    • The unit system is in kg, mm, ms
  • 1 session file to output results efficiently for each element type/formulation
  • A report with a detailed description of the model and the results of the study
