Dear All,

For the weld connection of 2d elements ,which is better whether  Springs with high stiffness or Rigid elements ???

Thanks

RAM

    Hi Ram,

    What is the simulation about?

Artificially increasing the stiffness may lead to bigger time steps and may not yield good results.

    Dear Prakash,

My simulation is about Roll-over Analysis.

    Thanks

    Ram

Spring elements will be better to model the weld connections.

    Dear George,

If we are using spring elements what stiffness to assigned for those elements??

In video tutorial they mentioned as 1E^7.

    Thanks

    Ram

You can use spring elements (NL to capture a bit realistic deformation) or BEAM elements.

Different springs with different materials have different stiffness values. So its upto you what to use and how stiff you want.

    Dear Prakash & George

Thanks for your valuable support. Is there any procedure for calculating the stiffness of the spring with particular material?

    Thanks

    Ram

As Prakash mentioned its based on the user and the type of analysis.

You can search for springs in users guide or help menu where you will get an idea about the stiffness formulation and failure criteria.
