Overview

The Durability group needed an automated way to create a combination of Hexa layers (bolt head) - B3H1 ( BoltThread) and RBE3 (Connecting the thread to its head) Currently they wear creating these type of bolts manually in multiple location and was time consuming.

Usage/Installation Instructions

Usage

  1. Script to automate the above mentioned process with minimal selection
  2. Added a custom connector type with the below configuration: CFG abaqus 777 custom_bolt (b31) *filter bolt *style bolt 0 *body 0 bar2 9 1 *post Abaqus_Bolt_Hexa_B3H1.tcl
  3. User creates a standard bolt from Bolt panel using the new selection type as Custom_bolt (B3H1), once the connector is created it would just as the user to enter the Plane at which he wants to create 2 layers of Hexa elements.
  4. Once he defines the 3 nodes for the plane it creates 2 layer of Hexa welds on both ends of the bolt head, and connects the b3h1 element with rbe3 with every single node of hexa elements
  5. They needed a Bolt head to be hollow at the center with its external dia set to 30mm and Internal dia set to 18mm

Limitation

The user needs to be careful in picking the correct plane, else the hexa elements would be extruded in the wrong direction
