Exporting custom sections from S-CALC for use in S-FRAME

To import an S-CALC section into S-FRAME, follow these steps:

1. First create the custom sections in S-CALC and save the file. As an example, we've created three random shapes in S-CALC. Be sure to select the calculation methods for

      • Shear Center
      • Shear Area
      • Torsional Constant
      • Warping Constant.

using either the Thin-wall FEA or General FEA calculation method, or User-supplied values. S-FRAME will look for these values when importing section properties.

2. After saving the S-CALC file with the three custom shapes, in the menu bar, select File -> Export -> S-FRAME (this time, the .TEL file option will be selected) and enter a name and location for the .TEL file that S-CALC will generate.

3. Now, from S-FRAME, we need to open and merge the newly created .TEL file.  Navigate to the menu bar and select File -> Merge. Browse for the S-CALC generated TEL file with the three defined sections and select the OK button. This action will import the custom sections into the S-FRAME model. This import can be verified by opening the Section Property Tool in S-FRAME.

Your import is complete.

    may I check that create own sections and import into S-Frame can perform structure analysis with the section property but later is it possible to be code checked in S-Steel?

    Hello Wenliang, this will depend on the type of section exported.  If they conform to the supported shapes in S-STEEL this should be possible.  You can find more details in the help topic within S-FRAME 'Custom section shapes in S-STEEL'.

    Do you have a copy of S-FRAME on your machine?  If so, the easiest way to find that would be to open S-FRAME, go to Help Menu-->Contents, and search for "Section Shapes Supported in S-STEEL".  I'm afraid that since this data is embedded in S-FRAME's installation I cannot provide a direct URL link, but hopefully with the above information, you can find it.
