Innovate Using Electromagnetic Free Shape Optimization
Shape Optimization is a very powerful method that has been widely used in Altair OptiStruct, which is a leading tool in structural optimization (https://www.altair.com/optimization/).
Applying the same technique to the electromagnetic field is very promising, as it allows finding innovative shapes of any electromechanical device without any parameterization.
Altair Flux is now able to compute local sensitivities. Using OptiStruct in the background, it can perform such shape optimizations in 2D. Various objective functions and constraints can be considered. Symmetry conditions, as well as non-linear B-H curves, can be taken into account.
Discover in the following video how this can be applied to the design of a synchronous reluctance machine to improve its average torque over a set of positions while reducing the weight of the rotor.
An example of a speed sensor is also shown.
You can’t wait to try this great new way of optimizing your electromagnetic designs!
