Learn how to control electrical drives using Altair Embed, which is a real-time embedded control software. During the two-day workshop, you will become familiar with all aspects of drive operation, from speed/current control and field-oriented control up to most aspects of sensored and sensorless operation of permanent magnet brushless DC (BLDC) machines . BLDC machines are used widely in a range of applications, from drones to electric vehicles, and the aim is to show how these can be controlled. The workshop is designed for practicing engineers, teachers and students. Its purpose is to demonstrate that complete and efficient control of electrical drives is achievable by using a real-time embedded control approach, without the need for C-code literacy. The participants will work with the following hardware:
- LAUNCHXL-F28069M processor board
- BOOSTXL-DRV8301 converter
- Portable test stand with a drone motor available at AUS
The approach and the experience acquired in this workshop can be readily extended to any type of drive, where use can be made of a comprehensive set of library examples in the field of electrical drives known as eDRIVES. This package is available within Altair Embed and is also used for real-time embedded control.
