how to achieve a similar sap 2000 mass source assignment in S-Frame?
Dear Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am currently working with S-Frame for a project that requires seismic analysis, and I am familiar with the process of assigning mass sources in SAP2000. In SAP2000, we define mass sources that include contributions from self-weight, additional loads, and other mass definitions, which are then considered in the analysis.
Could you please guide me on how to achieve a similar mass source assignment in S-Frame? Specifically, I would like to know the steps for defining and assigning mass sources in S-Frame, including any options for automatic mass generation from loads, if available.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,

Hello Maryam, thank you for your message.
You can create a Self-Weight load case in S-FRAME by adding a -1 value on the gravitational factor when creating a Load Case:
When executing the analysis, these are the steps the solver takes with that type of Load case:
You can also create Lumped Masses with the corresponding tool in the Geometry window, have a look at this short video where the process is executed to make a Free Vibration Analysis
https://youtu.be/PsJm2fx-dQE?si=96eE6CyO8JRE903S
Suppose you perform a vibration, RSA, or linear static analysis on RSA load cases. In that case, you can view per joint one of the following in Numerical Results: Active or Total Mass.
Now, hopefully, this gives you enough information to create the masses for your seismic analysis.
However, if you have any additional questions or issues, please send us an email to HWSupport@altair.com for the quickest response.
Best,
Tayen
