Simple bolted connection BCs
Hello,
I would like your expert opinion in applying BC in a problem similar to the one found in the attached file. Two solids are connected to each other with bolt connections as seen. Solid 1 is loaded to the side. The load seen is arbitrary; It can be forces, moment or a combination of both.
If one was to model only solid 1 (not both) for a static analysis and for the sake of simplicity didn't wish to model the bolts or make a contact analysis, what will be the best approach for applying the constraints? a) constraint in the x,y,z direction the bottom surface* (surface in contact) of solid 1 or b ) use RBE2 elements to simulate the bolts and constraint the independent (central) node in the x,y,z)? Any other ideas, best practices?
Thank you.
*: Meaning the line boundaries of the surface (3D elements...)

I feel second approach will give you more realistic results.

Thank you for your reply. Since, the area where the rigid elements will be connected to the solid ones will exhibit high stresses, I would be interested in receiving some opinions for constraining solid 1 (as per example) without RBE2 elements to simulate the bolt and constraint on the independent (central) node.
Regards.
