Annn file open in hyperview

Hi all. I am working on an automation project. Currently I am running an NLGEOM simulation whose results are in Annn files. I want to read these files, using hyperview, and then if a condition is met I want to rename them. The problem is that when I try to rename the Annn files I had previously opened, but now closed in hyperview, an error is thrown saying that the file is still open in hyperview. I tried to open a new session in hyperview as well but that too didn't work.

I am able to rename file only after closing the hyperview that I used to open that Annn file. But I don't want to close and open hyperview for renaming Annn files.

May anyone tell me how break the link between hyperview and Annn files without closing hyperview?

I tried with the model you sent the other day and I can't actually replicate your issue, as soon as I clear the Annn file from HV I am able to do what I like with the Annn files (delete/rename etc), I have a feeling something changed around version 2020 for this though, I recall it being more of an issue in the past.

As far as the chain of events goes, there is nothing you can do when running as NLGEOM subcase, the process is controlled by OS subcase, so far as I know, The Annn files are not being converted to .rst, .rs~ or .res though, they go straight from Annn to h3d and are then deleted. The .rst files in the run folder are the Radioss binary restart files, not related to the Annn

One other suggestion, since you are running a single NLGEOM subcase, could you just do this in Radioss directly? Then you could choose the Anim file frequency or write h3d natively

Your 0000.rad and 0001.rad that are created in the run folder are your Radioss input files, you could use/edit those as needed?

I think if in HV, you subsequently read something else into the session (anything, another arbitrary Annn file for example) then the link to the original Annn connected to HV is removed.

However, there may be another issue with your approach, the Annn files are Radioss output, and only present while the NLGEOM subcase is running, they are (or should be!) removed and converted to h3d by optistruct when the run completes, if you rename them during the run (which is the only time they exist) I think you will break the creation of the final h3d as the Annn files it is looking for will be missing.

NLGEOM is no longer supported in current Radioss releases either, I wouldn't recommend its use in general, LGDISP is the recommended method for Large Disp non linear geometry today.

Hi Paul. Thanks again for your reply. I have tried reading another file into the HV session, even opening a new session, but that did not work for me.

I don't want Annn files to convert as they are first converted to .rs~, then .res~ and then to h3d. This consumes lot of space (main problem) and time. We may convert Annn files to h3d using hv trans afterwards. (Is there any other way to break this chain of conversion?)

Yes, you have recommended using LGDISP before but it takes more time to complete. Though we will use it for small models.

Renaming the Annn files would have solved my memory problem easily. But I am not able to that. Is there any other way possible?

Yes you are right. The problem is with older versions. I was working with 2017 version and that was showing error. But with 2019 and above, there is no such problem. Thanks for the advice.
