Which version of the software are you installing and need to use?

The UNC mount point is necessary if you are doing a Network/server installation, this is separate from the license server, the license server serves licenses while the application server processes HyperWorks applications for multiple clients.

There are two kinds of application installations.

local installation - HyperWorks is to work on one machine using the processing power of that machine itself.

A server installation - HyperWorks is installed in one powerful machine (server machine) and several clients connect to this machine by a network and can run Hyperworks using the computing power of the server machine (principally),

Which of the above do you intend to use? If it is a local you must select local installation during the installation sequence and then you will not be prompted for the UNC.

You can easily deal with the UNC mount point stage by doing the following before you start installing.

    • Create a folder in a directory, for eg C:/ Server_Install

    • Share this folder to all the machines that are to be using HyperWorks

    • Create another folder within this folder say Altair11.0

    • Then your installation directory will be C:/Server_Install/Altair11.0

    • And your UNC mount point will be //machine name/Server_install/altair11.0

    • The machine name is the host name of your machine.

Once the server installation is done you will need to do a netsetup in each client (machines where HyperWorks needs to be run using the server machine)

See page 131, step 10 of appendix E of the 12.0 installation guide, the guide can be downloaded here
