Section Cut as a XY Plot

Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and just want to ask if one of you came over this: I have a model on which I do some research regarding displacement and deformation.

What steps are necessary that I can export a section cut to a xy graph (both x and y have the dimension length)

Cheers,

Merula

    Hi Merula,

What values at the section cut do you wish to plot?

For instance, one method could be, you create a section cut, then you can go to the query panel, select the nodes in the section > export these values from the query panel and then you can rearrange the data and plot it.

you can also go to the measure panel after section cut, select the nodes in the section and plot a particular attribute of these nodes on the section.

I think then my problem here is how to create a section cut. I tried the plot option with the 'cutting plane option' from the view controls. But then the nodes were not just the section cut nodes but all nodes -> unable to select my section cut line.

I want to have a measurable geometry of my deformed section cut. So it is displacement in the y direction and section cut in the x direction.

    Thanks in advance!

Edit: It is not based on time!

    Merula,

Do you mean clipping planes from the display options? you need to use the cross section option.

To plot the deformed shape of the section cut with the displacement in the y direction and the x coordinate of the nodes in the x direction of the plot or any such combination you can conveniently use the measure panel as described above. (The first option of using query panel will work also)

Just select nodal contour as the type of the measure group after contouring displacement.
Then select single curve in create curves option,
Here you use value as the y axis and entity x as your x axis

This will create a curve with the displacement value in y axis and the nodal x coordinate as the x axis

I am still stuck on the section cut. I did check the cross section option but nevertheless it selects all the nodes within my window when I want to measure them.

    Merula,

There are several ways to select entities in the model.

You can use the polygon selection option to draw a polygon around the necessary area,

    1. Place the cursor in the HyperView window.
    2. While pressing the SHIFT key, click the left mouse button and release it without dragging the mouse.
A menu is displayed showing the four different modes. The active mode is highlighted. The default mode is inside rectangle.

    3. Click on the polygon figure with the + sign indicating you need the nodes within the polygon

    4. hold shift and then draw a polygon around the model after rotating the model to a convenient location.

In an example model I do a selection like this,

    1. I hide all the components that I do not need

    2. I rotate the model to the desired orientation and draw a polygon window around the required region

    4. The necessary nodes are selected.

you may have to improvise according to your model

you can also use the more advanced selection methods available in HyperMesh, select necessary entities, create a set of these entities and use this set in the selection.

I think the set option will work the best for me, but it is kind of strange to me when I make a section Cut and want to select the DISPLAYED! Nodes, the selection goes on all nodes even if the elements are not displayed.

I did the option with the sets and it did not get right either.

This is what I have done: I masked my section cut in hypermesh, chose the nodes (by path, ordered) and made a Set out of it.

Selecting the Set in Hyperview got me this:

    Merula,

    Please follow these steps

    • Create a set in HyperMesh as you have and remember its name.
      Export this modified deck.
Use this as the model file in the load model field and your existing result file as the result file in the load resultsfield in the load model panel of HyperView.
The new set will now be populated among the sets in your HyperView results browser.
Select this set in the nodes by set option of the extended entity selector in the measure panel or any other panel as required.

    That solved it. Thanks!
