Kindly refer to following sections of AcuSolve-Command-Reference-Manual.pdf in your installation folder\acusolve\win64\doc\
Global commands > Radiation
Material Model Commands > Emmisivity Model
You could specify emmisivity for different surfaces to achieve your modeling goals.
Have you checked the 'Workshop10 – Modeling of Automobile Cabin using Solar and Enclosure Radiation' ?
http://training.altairuniversity.com/analysis/cfd/cfd-acusolve-workshops/
The workshop should answer most of the above queries.
Anyways, materials (air) properties are required for CFD simulations and AcuSolve is no exception. Material properties would have to be defined and assigned to appropriate volumes .
Emmisivity model need to be defined for surfaces.
Yes, material is a volume depenedent property and can be assigned to a volume.
What could be the reason for assigning material to a surface? Is it for radiation model?
