Is it possible to run a free size optimisation by modeling only one half of a part that has a symmetric plane with symmetric loadings and constraints?
If so, do I only impose symmetrical boundary conditions (Uz, Rx, Ry =0) + create resultant load steps?
Hi Eric,
I would say it is possible to do a free size optimization on a symmetric model, (when you make sure your FE model is modified for symmetry as always, i.e. apply symmetric boundary conditions and also make sure the loads are suitable modified etc)
see below the results for a simple model.
