Is there a way I can control the step size of the optimization?
You can change the move limits (the allowable change of the design variable in each iteration step) for the first iteration. The move limits are defined for each optimization type differently. The parameters are DELTOP, DELSHP, DELSIZ on the DOPTPRM statement. They can also be defined for size and shape variables on the DESVARcard.
In HyperMesh, use the opti control subpanel in the optimization panel on the Analysis page.
