Hi, I'm working on a part where I'm using a size (thickness) optimization for each plastic rib (picture). The colors in the picture indicating different properties/desvars. In order to get manufacturable thicknisses I apllied DDVAL for 1.5mm to 8mm in 0.1mm steps. Additionally I added the values 0mm and 1.5mm to eliminate ribs which would be smaller than 1.5mm .

DDVAL 2 0.0 1.5
+ 1.5 THRU 8.0 BY 0.1

But in the results are only the 1.5mm as the min thickness.
Is it allowed to use the value 0mm? Is there maybe another way to eliminate ribs which would be to thinn?
Does it make sense to change the DESCRETE value?

Thanks in advance!

    58Eddy,

Perhaps an individual discrete value of 0.0 is not the way to remove unwanted (too thin) ribs.

You could try with a lower bound of 0.0 in the size desvar (and from field of ddval) and see if it give 0 thickness to any rib, (perhaps try with a sample model with a totally unwanted rib with same parameters and then see if the result is 0 thickness for it)

However, If you give 0 and find ribs that are of very small thickness you can easily identify these while postprocessing and remove them for your design.
