Hey, I have tried to do a test run on my model in Optistruct and I have encountered this message.

*** ERROR #  41 ***
CBAR 1525774 has an invalid orientation vector (zero length
or parallel to the element axis).

I have looked up that specific element but i cannot find the issue. Furthermore the element is not even a CBAR Element but it is a CBEAM Element. Maybe someone has an idea how to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

Here are more picture to clarify the described issue:

This is the Beamsection used for the CBEAM Element. I have attributed it to the Schrauben_Property seen in the first two images.

best regards!

    Hi Tim,

What property card image are you using? PBEAML is recommended. It could be helpful if you share a screenshot of the property from the Entity Editor.

You may also try recreating the element and testing a -check run with it deleted from the model. Just a few items to help with troubleshooting.

Are you sure this is a CBEAM element? Have you clicked the 'review' buttom and then your element, in order to make sure? sometimes we change something in the interface, but if the update option is not used, nothing has really changed. Reviewing the element will make it clear what is the element type and if there is any other misleading info.

'orientation in displacement' system makes sense IF your nodes have a output system assigned to them (changing the dof itself). Is there any reason for not using just global (basic), and assing the orientation in galobal X, for example?

Thank you for the replies. I was able to solve the issue.

I updated the BEAM Element and did not realize that after the next test run it actually showed the same message but "CBAR 1525775" instead of "CBAR 1525774". So i realized that my orientation was wrong for all my CBEAM Elements in my model. I must have become confused with the "update" function and i did not realize that it actually changed the element. After updating all of them, there was no more warning message. Yay.

I have also checked the property again and that it is set on PBEAML.

The only thing which I have not solved yet is why the message showed it as CBAR because all the elements with the wrong orientation were Beam Elements.

I have the same error. I've already remade the model from scratch 3 times, but I always get the same error. Where will you change the option that might stop returning an error? I use AltairHyperworksDesktop 2022 student version, many of the commands/menus presented on this page are not the same, or do not have the same options as when we found them.

    steps
    C and O sections
    material mat1-isotropic
    properties "pbeam"
    geometry - nodes
    elements

    spc
    loads

    how to avoid error 41?
