EDEM simulation for Granular mass flow onto a milling table.

Hi Venkata,
We have a tutorial on the breakage model in EDEM which would be useful to get started on this case:
EDEM Tutorial 4: Tavares Breakage for SAG Mill
Although it's a different application the breakage model used is the same. With regard to mass flow rate EDEM can measure this, the last lessons in the e-learning cover the Analyst sensors EDEM Elearning

@Stephen Cole .. i want to assign rotational motion to my circular table (self rotation on its own axis). I tried adding it via 'ADD MOTION" and then linear kinematic rotation -then Centre of mass as point of action. But I couldnt see the table rotating. i have attached screenshots ...how can we rectify to rotate on its own axis /center of tbale.

Hi Venkata,
I don't see the image/screenshot. Could you reattach and show the setup of the kinematics?

Hi Stephen,
Could you please refresh the link "EDEM Tutorial 4 - Tavares Breakage for SAG Mill.zip"?

Hallo @Stephen Cole ...please find the attachments now here...If I gave some point for axis of rotation, then its moving& rotating in space(self rotation).

Hi Venkata,
From the screenshots there isn't an axis of rotation specified, putting a value in the Y End for axis (+1000 mm or -1000 mm depending on direction) would allow it to rotate. The axis defines the direction then the point of action defines the point at which the axis goes through. Selecting 'display vector' should show the axis around which it is going to rotate. I would expect Center of Mass to be good but this is calculated based on the CAD import, if this doesn't pickup the actual center of mass you can add this using manual point.

@Stephen Cole ..yes that works ..thank you very much.. I have another question.. I have my simulation completed and now I want to change some parameters in the creator section and run the same simulation again from start.. how can I do that. .I would appreciate a reply as soon as possible.

Hi Venkata,
For changing inputs EDEM takes any inputs into account only at and after the point in time they were changed. If you run a simulation then change a input that change will only take place if you continue running from the point the change was made.
As such it's best practice to rewind the simulation to t=0 s and save as a new file. Make the changes to the simulation at this point and run the next variation.

Hallo @Stephen Cole ...it makes sense, got it ...thank you...I have one more query... I have created a particle factory with generation rate of target mass 500kg/h. But when I measured that particle factory with mass flow sensor in the analyst section after the simulation, the value is different but not 500 kg/hr...what could be the reason and how can i rectify it..

Hi Venkata,
It could be related to a couple of things:Firstly mass flow sensors measure the mass flow rate along the axis of the cylinder, if the cylinder isn't aligned with the flow it won't give the mass flow in that direction.
Secondly factories can only create material if there is space to place the particles in the simulation. This is detailed here:

How to create granular material using EDEM

@Stephen Cole ....Is it possible in EDEM to apply a compressive force on a particle layer through the geometry part by applying pressure to it? by this compressive force , particle breakage to happen..
