how to model rivet in a Random vibration structural analysis to get rms stress

Hi,

Currently iam doing Riveted structural analysis for random vibrations. in that i have modelled structure with shell elements and rivet with 1d beam elements. from the output results i can validate my structure with respective to the RMS stress. where as for Rivet i can not validate for 1d beam elements. for this, i have done few comparisons between  modelling of 3d plate+3d rivet and 2d plate +3d rivet(without considering head of the rivet) but i did not get same value of stress between two comparisons.so, suggest me how to model rivet. what kind of mesh i have to choose to validate rivet with respective to the structure.
