Hello,

I am new to using Monarch (I have v15) and I am currently having an issues aligning two templates I am joining.

The following is the layout that my report starts as before trapping:

The following is my desired output:

Currently, this is what I am receiving after I join the two templates I have created:

How do I get rid of the red spaces so that the information will line up with the information it is supposed to?

    Hi Chris,

I am not sure if you are actually joining two separate individual files/tables or are you trying to build a model off of 1 file/data source?  I know our Support team can provide the guidance/direction in what you are looking to do.  You may contact them here.:  https://www.datawatch.com/support/

    Hi Chris,

You don't seem to have a valid join for the two templates but really you should not have to use two templates anyway.

Is it safe to assume you are using the Data Prep mode of V15 Monarch rather than the Classic mode when creating the templates?

The first three lines that are "blank". Does the source actually report the word "blank" or are you just indicating no data is available for the benefit of readers of your example?

If the lines are blank then the simplest approach becomes a little more involved than normal.

You also have a special situation to deal with for the two date rows under "20".

Can I ask what sort of file type provides the originals source data. Excel?

    Hi Grant,

I am using Data Prep Studio in v15 Monarch and I am just indicating that there is no data available where I have written "blank". The original data is coming from a pdf document.

Given the way that the data is listed in the document I have created one template to capture the following:

    The second template then captures:

The following is what we are trying to capture into an excel spreadsheet https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1065sk1.pdf

    Hi Chris,

It seems you may want to use the Multi-Column Region to assist you with your Part III of your Report Document. Link to info found here.: https://docs.datawatch.com/monarch/desktop/Using_the_multi_column_region_trapping_feature.htm?rhsearch=multi%20column&rh…

The other aspect of the model you are creating my best guess is you would want to make the values - your Detail Template and then the fields an Append Template.  Information about Creating Data Extraction Templates: https://docs.datawatch.com/monarch/desktop/ht_input_createtmp.htm?rhsearch=detail%20template&rhsyns=%20

For some of those fields you may need to use multiple-line field:  https://docs.datawatch.com/monarch/desktop/ht_input_mline.htm?rhsearch=multi%20column&rhsyns=%20

I know our Support Team can provide guidance/tips on how to build this out.: https://www.datawatch.com/support/

    Hi Chris,

It has long interested me that people new to Monarch seem so often to be thrown right in at the deeper ends of it extensive capabilities. I can understand how it happens but it does seem to be a little unfair!

I generally agree with Rebecca's suggestions but if you only need the fields from 15 to 20 I don't think Multi-Column regions will be something you need to dive in and grapple with at this stage. (They probably could be if you need 1 to 20.)

Normally the variable values in the table would be Details (Detail Template) and the field numbers (15 to 20) would be Appends (Append Template) - or even just use the Details since Appends are always fixed for this page and table of the report. So the details field can be named for the number - 15 to 20. However if you need the field number identifier in the Spreadsheet it is probably easier to treat it as an append in this case.

How have you defined each of the templates you have already created?

Let's see if there is a way to build in that. I'm a little cautious that although the numbers (appends) are likely to appear consistently placed the characters in the "detail" field area may not and so the traps might be less robust than one would like (depending on how you approach it).
