Is it a way to trim 2D mesh

Hi 

I need to devide a  irrgular 2D meshed surface into two surface. If I do not have the geometry, is there any way that I can directly trim the 2D meshed with a plane/surface/line interceded with it?

I would convert it to FE Geometry and then you can use the geometry edit tools.
