In the 'automatic connections' pop-up box a box can be checked to 'create local connections at bolts'. What type of connection does this make?
This creates local washer bonded regions around the bolts at the faces of the bolted parts. Otherwise (left unchecked) the entire face between the parts is bonded and this can over stiffen the model.
