SimSolid fails to identify faces of larger sized STL models

Hi there,

I am facing problem in selecting the faces of larger STL models to apply boundary conditions. SimSolid successfully identifies the faces of smaller STLs but fails for larger models. Changing the geometry import settings did not help. I am trying to determine the strength of TMPS sheet-based structures. Is there any limitation of STL model size for face recognition to work? or am I missing somthing here?

Thanks and

Best Regards,

Mudassar Khalil

STL files do not have faces, please create spots to apply any boundary conditions.

Thanks for your reply. SimSolid does recognize faces on STL files. Please see the image of the smaller STL. I am creating spots for larger files but that method is not very efficient.

SimSolid simply breaks it down when the faces can be clearly separated. For the smaller STL, the flat faces are distinct but not for the larger STL.

Ok, then face recognition will not work on larger STLs. I will go with spot creation method then. Thanks for your help and support.
