Hello
I have availed the Altair Student Edition License File so that I can use the Embed software. I am an undergraduate student in my final year of mechanical engineering and I am currently working on my BE project i.e. to design a low-cost critical care ventilator. For the design of the control system, I wanted to make use of the CodeGen feature in Embed so that I can obtain automatic code. However, with the current student license, I am unable to avail this feature. So, is there any work-around to this problem?
Hi Aniruddha,
Somehow you have the SE version of Embed running. I have a few questions that will help get this straightened out;
1. What is the size of the Embed executable you downloaded?
2. Did you download the Embed executable from the student site (this was emailed to you with the altair_lic.dat file attached after you filled out the request form)?
3. Please send a copy of "licensing.log" located in the Embed installation folder under "security", most people install Embed on their "C" drive so for the 2021.1 version, this folder would be located at "C:\Altair\Embed2021.1\security"
4. Please send a copy of "vissim.ini" located in the Embed installation folder under the "C:\VSI".
Thank you,
Ric

Hello Richard,
Thank you for your reply.
1. The size of the Embed executable (Altair_Embed_2021.1_Build12.exe) that I downloaded is 564 MB.
2. Yes, I downloaded it from the email I received from altairuniversity@altair.com.
3. I am sorry but I couldn't find 'licensing.log' in the mentioned folder. I installed Embed in my D drive and these are the files available in the 'security' folder.
4. I have attached a .txt file containing the contents of "vissim.ini".
One last thing I would like to ask about is that upon opening Embed software, I get the following message.
I hadn't noticed the name initially, however after reading your reply, I am sure that Embed SE got installed from the student license.
When you received the email after registering on the student version website there should have been a license file attached named "altair_lic.dat". Please do the following:
Step 1: Please copy and place this file in the "D:\Altair\Embed2021\security" folder
Step 2: Launch Embed, navigate to "File/ Setup License" and select the "License File" radio button, then under the "Path", use the button to navigate to the security folder and select the "altair_lic.dat" file, click OK, then shut down and restart Embed.
Step 3: While in Embed, re-navigate back to "File/ Setup License" and make sure the "License File" radio button is still selected and the "Path" is as you defined it in the previous step. Also, in the upper right corner of the "License Setup" dialog there is a dropdown menu for "Preferred Product License", please make sure this is set to "Altair Embed"
Step 4: Using "File Explorer", navigate to the "D:\Altair\Embed2021\security" folder and email me a copy of the "licensing.log" file, it should be there this time.

Hello Richard
I followed the mentioned steps and completed the license setup.
However, even after doing this, there is no change in "D:\Altair\Embed2021\security" folder. There still is no "licensing.log" file.
What does it mean to 'upgrade my license'? Does it mean that I need to purchase a professional license so that I can use the codegen feature. I think that the student license doesn't provide Embed software for free. The reason why I think so is that I opened the 'altair_lic.dat' in notepad and these are the only available FEATURES:
I checked in the Embed Installation Guide and in Pg 18, they show that the license file should contain features like:
My license file doesn't contain features like EmbedCodeGenFeature, EmbedSimulationFeature etc.
Due to this, I am getting the following message:
So, how to proceed from here?
I've asked Darius to email you a new "altair_lic.dat" file. When you receive it please place it in the "..security" folder and either delete or rename the existing version. Let me know if this works. Also, please check your C drive for the licensing.log file, it should be under C:\Altair\Embed2021\security, if you can find it please send it to me after you get the new license file installed.
Before you replace it, please send me the altair_lic.dat file you originally received.
Thanks,
After speaking with Darius, the best approach for you at this time is to
1. Uninstall the existing version of Embed from your computer, you can go to the control panel or from the start menu, make sure everything is deleted.
2. Redownload and install using the attached "Learn from Home" instructions, that should fix your problem.
Any progress, were you successful reinstalling?
