Please fix bugs with CBUSH orientation in HW/HWX

I have been encountering some bugs with setting orientation for CBUSH elements inside HM/HWX environment. Recently, I had to remesh a component and recreate associated CBUSH elements. In spite of setting orientation for CBUSH elements using CSYS system (After updating, I see in the message at bottom left of the screen where the function is assigning selected CSYS), during orientation review, the orientation of CBUSH elements are not per selected CSYS. I also checked in the input deck and I found out for the newer elements, HW is not writing CID at all and I am getting lots of fatal errors during solving. I have around 600+ newer CBUSH elements and currently I am having to import the input deck in to MSC Patran & assign CID.

I have highlighted issue with CBUSH inside HW/HM multiple times and I think fix is under progress but I am starting to get a feeling that this issue is not a priority for Altair. CBUSH is a very common element in Aerospace industry and I am wondering if I'm alone in getting this bug or other customers of Altair have reported this issue as well.

I'd suggest to work directly in HWX and context via:

    - selection of elements by config (CBUSH)

    - edit them (after selected, RMB and get to "bulk" edit)

    - change orientation assignment (if any) to point to CID

    - Select the system

    Please see attached recording.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

^^Thanks for your reply along with video. I will try this method tomorrow and update here if it worked!

    @Michele Macchioni

Your suggestion worked well. I hope by 2022 release, the CBUSH creation will be migrated to new interface. At least in 2021.1, the old panel comes up if I want to create Spring elements.

    Hi,

Did not want to start a new thread but had a question and an observation on HW 2021.2

I cannot create a surface from a single line...steps taken:

    a) Enter in to Sketcher environment and draw just one line

    b) Try to create surface using Drag tool

Strangely, if I have two lines, I can create surfaces using Drag tool

Secondly, the new "Use Parasolid" option in Geometry Defeaturing (Fillets) did not work well with one of the models I tried. The defeature removed the entire fillet (as in the space became empty)...shown below

Had to uncheck "Use parasolid" feature which resulted in improper removal of fillets...I hope these are fixed in future

I am using this thread to post my question rather than a new one because I can't create a new thread. I click on Post a New Question and I am directed to a new page and I don't see any place to type my question. I have tried two different browsers Firefox & Opera and in both, I am not able to see box to type in my question.

My question is regarding how to do GFEM-DFEM meshing.

    image

In the above picture, how do I mesh the outer & inner surfaces in HW/HM such that common nodes are connected while I get a refined mesh on the inner surface? Of course, my real structure is more complicated but it I want to start off with simple ones.

OK...so here is what I get when I go to New Question page...

"Ask a Question" is just a text which has no connecting links and I don't see a text box to type in my contents.

have you tried the 'refine' tool in HW?

Really nice results, in my opinion.

    Hello,

Again, did not want to start a new thread for a few questions...I see that in some of the webinar videos of HW, dark mode is being used. Is it officially available for all users? I am still on HW 2021 (one of the point releases i.e. 1 or 2...not sure which one) and I don't think I see a dark theme.

Is the dark theme available in 2022 release?

Secondly, I see that for CBUSH/Spring creation, old UI is being used. Any possible time frames on which we can see a more rapid & easier way to bulk create spring elements? The Aerospace -> Fastener Setup/Connection tool does not work all the time...

Got a chance to install HW 2022.0.1 and I found an annoying bug. Steps to reproduce the bug:

    1. Start HW for first time.

    2. In Client Launcher, set client to Hypermesh. Solver to MSC Nastran & a Custom Start Folder

    3. Start HW. Enable View -> Panels

    4. Close HW

    5. Restart HW and follow step #2 (settings of #2 should already be selected in client launcher)

    6. After HW opens, I am seeing a blank grey box in panel areas instead of legacy panel icons. Might be a graphics issue...if I disable panels from View menu and re-enable them, the panels come up correctly.

I hope Altair will be able to fix this issue in its next release.

Another request...it would be nice to have an option of renumbering all entities (nodes, elements, CSYS, geometries, properties etc.) in one go rather than do it one-by-one. If there is already an option to do the above in one step, it would be awesome.

A positive feedback, I find HW interface to be a lot snappier in the current version compared to previous ones. Good job Altair...
