Hi,

In Optistruct help  strain >> extras >>  MECH, THER, PLASTIC

MECH - Output Mechanical strain (in addition to total strain).
PLASTIC - Output Plastic strain (in addition to total strain).

Whats the difference between mechanical and Plastic Strain ?
vonmises strain is the total strain ?

    Hi Karthic,

From Hooke's law Strain= (Sigma/E)+EpT(Thermal Strain). Here we have two parts thermal strain and mechanical strain. The first part is Mechanical strain.

Plastic strain is calculated beyond yield point.

    Hi Prakash,

Whether mechanical strain = elastic strain + Plastic strain
