How to keep certain geometry on design body when optimizing?
Hi, I'm new and I'm wondering if there is a way to asign certain points, planes or features for example and for these to keep their shape after optimizing. I'm working on this chair design and want the body to keep it's general shape while being optimized, and for the holes to be kept intact and connected to the body. Further, is there a way to keep the shape of the design body somewhat intact, so that the general shape is still recognizable after optimization?

Hello Aidas,
The process you are asking is the generic true workflow of Optimization. You create two types of geometries. 1) Design space on which optimization will be performed and 2) Non-Design space on which all constraints are applied and/or the shape or locations you want to retain. For example, you can create a partition of holes to keep them in an optimized shape.

Alright, but if I make a partition, the optimized structure doesn't connect to that partition, so it just ends up floating in space, is what I'm getting. I want those parts to be connected to the rest of the structure.

What did u place on the holes? Supports or bolts?

The only suggestion i have, assuming you have grounded bolts on the holes is to change the connection type to "Huth-Schwarmann" which can improve load distribution, your optimized part will change for the better.
