I did a thermal expansion analysis of an ignition coil assembly using MAT1 material. Should I have done it using MAT4 material?

How it affects my results?

    Hi,

MAT4 can be used for free convection and conductivity problems. It provides fileds to control thermal conductivity, CP and heat transfer coefficient to support same.

    Hi Karth,

As I understand your words, you want to do an Thermal Expansion analysis, so you should use MAT1 to do that. MAT1 is used in case you want to determmine the behavior of a structure under a thermal load that can cause high stress or displacement.

MAT4 (or MAT5) is used when you want to do a heat Transfer analysis for unknown temperatures and fluxes under thermal loading.\

so it totally depend on what do want to do.

    Cheers
