Hi,

I am doing fatigue analysis on solid elements component and defined shell elements in FATDEF.  In static analysis, shell elements and solid elements are showing different stresses. so which stress will be considered for damage and life calculation?

Thanks,

Narasimhamurthy

    Hi Narasimha,

If the solid is coarse, it will show good difference between shell & solid.

Since you are using shell in FATDEF, fatigue will use shell stresses only.
If you feel solid stresses are accurate, you can use solid elements in FATDEF.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Solid elements are showing exact stress, what I want. Shell elements are showing slightly more than solid elements.

For the safe side, I am preferring shell elements for Fatigue.

Hi. I have few questions to fatigue analysis. I would like to calculate mean and alternating stress how can I read max/min principle stresses from static analysis ?

I do analysis for grey cast iron, cast iron have diferent yield for tension and compresion can I include this in calcuation ?
