Old Tabs
Hello,
I used to work with the old style, tabs in the bottom of the window. Now I want to work with the new GUI, but do not fid everything... When I using the commands with the search function I come always to the old style. That is not really helpful!
1. Is there a matrix which shows me where all commands have the place in the new style?
2. I wanted to create between two tubes (with gap in between) a new solid, which connects everything to have a mesh with coincident nodes. But I did not find a way in the new style. At the end I have to create two surfaces and create a solid with surrounding surfaces (old style). The selection was a disaster (mask, find attached etc.) How would be the new process...?
Kind Regards

Hi Carsten,
1. There's a tool here that shows where some of the panel tools map to the new interface but I don't think it's being updated anymore. Probably the best tip is to look in the bottom right corner of the panel when you're in a tool. There's sometimes a blue hyperlink that takes you to the new version (for example, the automesh panel has a 'Try General 2D Mesh Tool' link).
2. I don't know of a great way to support this workflow using exclusively the new interface. I would probably copy/paste 2d elements from the tubes and organize them to a new collector. Then, use 2D -> ruled panel to bridge the gap between the upper and lower edges of the tube to form the outside of the solid.
Best,
Christian

Carsten, yes. I agree, HyperWorks is in a sort of strange transition state, not being fully functional in either old or current gui. Hopefully things get migrated quickly and we can converge on how to get things done. BTW I use the term "current gui" for what you are calling the new gui; it's been here for 2 years now so not so new.
I think the tool Christian is referring to is the Tool Finder. This is (was) the link, but it appears to have been taken down, hopefully temporarily. Even though it was out of date it was pretty helpful to get oriented to the current gui when you are used to the old gui.

In addition to the links in the panels that Christian mentioned. A lot of times I figure out where things are by using the search. It shows where things are in the current gui and also in the panels (old gui) so you can get a decoder for any particular item.
(2) How to do that tube connection depends a lot on what you have going on, from the description it would be relatively straightforward to do using the current gui; quite a lot less steps than the old gui, but you have to get used to the gui, and it's heavy dependence on keyboard shortcuts. Believe it or not with the new gui there is no need to use things like masking. The idle mode controls give quite a lot more functionality a lot faster, but you have to stop thinking in terms of the old HM constructs for a lot of it. It's worth it.0
