Simlab always Delete all BC & Constraints when create new solutions

Hi,

I am using SL 2019.2 and always face the issue: 'Delete all load & BC when create new solution'.

May I know if there is any option to keep this?

If we do like this, what is meaning of 'Loads & Constraints' tab?

I often create some BC and load firstly then create solutions.

    Hi,

Solution creation is a new approach and a easy way of creating the solution. Loads and constraints browser is the classic approach where the loads will be listed. To avoid the conflict between both the browser, we thought of deleting the loads in loads and constraints browser before creating the solution.

In upcoming versions, we may remove the loads and constraints browser. Then, this confusion will be avoided.

In your case, if the loads are already present in the loads and constraints browser, then go to File > Export > Silver input file option and select the solver and solve the problem.

    Thanks Santhosh.

If so, I have to create solutions firstly, then create bc & load. This approach could be easier for customization or multiphysic (same as ANSYS).

Yes.... Your understanding is correct. Create solution first and then apply loads and constraints.

Solution approach is very easy to use and can perform multi physics  simulation.

Feel free to contact me if you have any doubts in solution creation.

@Alpha: LBC Browser will be supported until ALL solver profiles will migrate to the Solution approach. Then it will be shut down.

For Altair SimLab 2019.2 we support all 'internal' Solvers as solutions: Acusolve, Optistruct, Radioss, Molding, Flux

Altair SimLab 2020 will support also ABAQUS solutions.

Please notice that if you use SimLab with sT units you will have accesso only to Internal Altair Solvers.

Solutions for external solvers will be only available with HW units-licensing.

Thus far, I don't see any value for the new Create Solution when importing a FEM from another software.  Seems like loss of function, rather than any benefit.   Can't even update the L&C to new values and re-solve via Optistruct.   The Solve icon disappeared.  Maybe if one creates the model from STEP within Simlab, there is benefit.   Currently, I'm converting many archived I-DEAS models into Simlab.   Often its very slick.  Sometimes not so easy if original mesh geometry was nasty, or interfering RBE2 and RBE3 elements (for which I-DEAS was forgiving)

I'm just getting familar with Loads and Constraints browser window for creating required entites, and I hope Simlab does not delete this nice functionality.   Please retain until 2022 at least.

    Hi Darad,

This is pros & cons. I also feel the same like you when start to use SOLUTIONS browser.

I think Solutions Browser is easier for new users. Secondly, it sounds SL want to do more (thermal, cfd, EM), rather than only mechanical. Then Load & Constraints may be conflicted and difficult to do automation. Now I am learning python script and found this may be useful.

Many users will be badly affected if the LBC browser is deleted in favor of the Solution browser.

I  believe most users are just doing linear static linear analysis, and would not benefit from the Solution broswer, which hides too much.  The very advanced multi-physics user might benefit from any streamlining with the Solutions browser.

The current LBC browser is VERY easy to learn and use, yet very powerful in its functionality for easily turning off entities for modified Solve run.   Please keep LBC browser forever.   I had zero issue with LBC browser when first started last summer, and now I can really take advantage of its versatility, and has allowed me to progress very rapidly.   No comparison to Hypermesh/Hyperworks X, which is a real struggle yet I have years of experience to many tools.   Maybe Solutions browser looks slick for marketing demos.

Recently I imported a Nastran bulk data model from another tool.  The import default was to Create a New Solution, which I overlooked.   This brought the user into the Solution browser, in which nearly all LBC relevant information was lost.  Leaving me lost.   I had to re-import the bulk.dat file, while UNCHECKING the Create New Solution default.

I'm using 2019.2.    I'd LOVE to migrate to 2019.3 for ability to change to English units for NEW models, but the Analysis tab does not appear on my Windows 7 install of 2019.3  (see my other post on 2019.3).   Mgmt has been irked that my stress results are displayed in mPa, rather than psi.  I have to relabel the plot scale with ksi units, waste of time and error prone.

    Hi Darad,

I agree with you some points and I also recognize Simlab have some limitation besides some beauty.

But we should accept this, we cannot request Simlab change following our way.

For your case, I think you can setup LBC, then export to *.fem file, then edit text the setup manually then run in Optistruct Deck. That is HyperMesh style.

Hello, I have a problem with the new Solutions Window. I try to apply a BC to a node (connected with RB2 elements to my model), and I have the next message:
'Please select faces /edges/nodes' vertices from 'Structural' (wich is the name of the Solution created). But I can't move that point and consider as a FE Body. It is very important to define.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi JJJ,

    Could you share the model?

Have you select the bodies on your SOLUTION?

Hello alpha, you gave me the idea to include not only the bodies, but also the rbe elements on the FE Bodies. With this, everything is ok. Thank you very much. Regards.
