Hello,
I'm new to FEA type analysis and have been doing modal analysis in a couple different programs, SIMSOLID and Inspire or using Inspire the two different solvers within Inspire to minimize differences as much as possible.
The results from the different programs (or solvers) agree pretty closely when same material is used, same constraints, and 2nd order elements are used if doing solid geometry (using Simsolid or OptiStruct solver in Inspire with 2st order elements) or if using a mid-surfaced and simplified model in Inspire with 1st order elements.
If doing a mid-surfaced model in Inspire, 2nd order elements will be significantly different compared to the other methods, which are all within a couple percent difference of each other. Some analysts I've talked to here say the mid-surfaced model with 2nd order elements is the "gold standard" w.r.t accuracy to "real life" but this is the only one that is off compared to the other three.
Does anyone have experience with correlating modal analysis from Simsolid or Inspire w/ Optistruct solver to physical parts? This is probably something I'm going to do (former test guy). I'm looking for community feedback on what technique you trust.
