Hi,

I am new doing heat transfer analysis with OptiStruct, and I need to solve the following problem:

2 coaxial cylinders (see image below)

The inner Surface of the external cylinder (blue) is generating a heat flux, which makes to increase the internal cylinder temperature (by convection).

I need to know the temperature of the small cylinder (yellow) and I don´t know how to proceed to solve this kind of problems.

What are the guidelines to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance!

    Hello Lucia,
I would recommand you start by looking at the following tutorials in the OptiStruct help manual :

    OS-T: 1085 Linear Steady-state Heat Convection Analysis

OS-T: 1385 Heat Transfer Analysis on Piston Rings with GAP Elements

Concerning the layer of air you have between the parts, OptiStruct can only simulate convection with external fluids with infinite capacity. You will then need to treat it as a conduction by modelling the air with his MAT4 material.
