Need Help Analyzing Direct Shear Test Results in EDEM Simulation
Dear EDEM Community,
I trust this message finds you well. I've recently successfully modelled a direct shear test (DST) simulation in EDEM, but I'm facing difficulties in establishing the connections between normal stress, shear stress, and shear displacement as graphs or results.
I would greatly appreciate your guidance on effectively analyzing the results and deciphering the correlation between shear stress and shear displacement. My goal is to comprehend any emerging trends or patterns from the simulation data.
If you could share any advice, resources, or insights, it would be immensely helpful.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Best regards,

Hi Mohammed Bairoti,
In my understanding, DTS aims for bulk solid flowability characterization under quasi-static flow (high pressures and low strain rates) regime application. You can use normal and shear stress correlation (and Mohr circle analysis), as obtained through the simulation, to derive key characterization parameters such as internal and effective friction angles and unconfined yield strength.
You can find a relatively detailed post on shear cell testing along with some suggested reads and a calibration kit here.
Hope you find it useful.
Regards
Ambrish
