Is there an option to load directly cad step files in to the hyperbeam to calculate the section geometry properties?

not exactly as you describe it, in that you don't open hyperbeam, then load the step there, but if you read the step into HyperMesh, you can create a new solid section from it and that will open in HyperBeam for further editing
