Hi everyone,

I did a tensile test. Why do we have to use spring elements (CELAS1)? What is its purpose in this problem?

Why do we use element force (1D) 3460 instead of using displacement for Node 14598 to plot force-displacement curve?

    Hello,

    I'm assuming you are referring to exercise 2b from nonlinear training for OptiStruct (attached).

    You will scale element force (1D) by 2e6 to convert the spring stiffness from the CELAS1 element in the model 
    to act as a strain gauge within the model. Then, you will be able to compare it to the test results.
