Using the result of a simulation as input for another one (geometry, stresses and strains)
Hi,
I simulated bending of a sheet metal and now I want to use this deformed sheet metal in a subsequent simulation and bend it again with another tool, which means I need the geometry as well as the residual stresses and strains, which remain after the first simulation. Which is the proper way to do this in Optistruct?
I can import the deformed geometry from Hyperview. To get the stresses and strains, do I have to use the "field" card using the h3d file as input or is there another way to do this?
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,
Please take a look at the file attached as an example.
You need to use an ASSIGN card referring to the output file with the stress results.
After, you have to create a load case resolving only the initial stress, adding the INISTRS card created that refers to the file assigned, load case, and element set, for instance.
Please refer to our documentation to see all options available. https://help-staging.altair.mediag.com/2022/hwsolvers/os/topics/solvers/os/inistrs_bulk_r.htm?zoom_highlight=INISTRS
OptiStruct doesn't currently support strain mapping yet. However, it's under development.
Let me know if works for you, and consider marking the answer as correct if solves your query.PS: Remind to keep 8 characters for each field in OptiStruct deck (or in CARD EDIT in HW session). Refer to the documentation for each field.

Thank you very much for your reply,
I will take a look into the ASSIGN and INISTRS cards. I am not sure if it works as I planned without strain mapping, but in that case I will take a look into the possibilities of the Radioss-Solver.
