Pothole Modeling - Cleat along the road direction
Hi!
I am modeling a car. It accelerates straight to a given velocity, then changes the lane and drives straight on the other lane.
Furthermore, I want to simulate a load case, where a cleat is between the lanes, eg. not perpendicular to the road, and the effect that has on my car.
Now I'm using the auto tire feature using a default tire. Additionally, I model the road with the default Cleat10x50mm_45deg.rdf file, where the cleat is at 45° to the direction of travel, which works fine. If I change the parameter ($ deg of rotation of the cleat about the Z-axis wrt to the X-axis of the road) to 90°, it should be along the direction of travel.
However, if I simulate the car with the cleat at 90°, the results are the same as if I have the cleat at 0° (perpendicular to road).
Has anyone an Idea on how to tackle this?
- Cleat along the direction of travel, such that it is driven over during a lane change?
- How to show this cleat in motion view road graphics?
Please find attached a small drawing of the situation.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers

Hi Joel,
Can you please try switching on cam contact method in tire property file? By default single point contact method is used in tire and it may not be able to detect the cleat at 90 degree.
Also, please use Road Tools to visualize the cleat on road. You can access it from Vehicle Tools menu
You will get an graphic as shown below:
