How to connect 2D and 3D mesh, or how to connect two different mesh ?

Hello,

I meet some difficulties to create a good hexahedral mesh for my complex shape. So we decided to first create a tetra mesh, that we then split into hexas (blue component on the figure).

I would like to refine the mesh in some parts (red component in the figure).

Is there a way to connect both mesh? an interface to use?

(NB: i do not use Optistruct but Radioss)

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Blaisem,

you can use /INTER/TYPE2 to link both meshes. If you expect some element deletion, due to failure model, I would recommand you to set the Idel2 parameter to 1.

NB: the transition area should be as far as possible from the interest area to ensure good quality criteria.
