Is there a way to select specific particles within a diameter range?

Hello everybody,

i am working with the Tavares breakage model and i was wondering if there is any way to select only a specific range of particles within a specified diameter range. I am trying to analyse the grading curve produced by the breakage model.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi Marc,

Unfortunately it is not possible to select a size range to which the breakage model will be applied. The breakage model is applied to all particles of the specified particle type. You could a particle type with only the sizes you want to break and another particle type with all the other sizes.

first af all I would like to thank you for your quick reply.
I think I mislead you here.

I would like to define a particle range AFTER the breakage/simulation (in EDEM Analyst) that I can measure afterwards.

In other words, I would like to measure the mass fraction of the particles with a diameter of 4-6 mm in the total material. Because don't know how many particles with that specific diameter-range the breakage model implemented in my simulation.

I hope i explained better and hope you can help.

Hi Mark,

On the Analyst, you can create a histogram to analyze the particle size distribution and you can specify the range of the x-axis of the histogram (in your case should be particle diameter), just like in the picture below. Hope this is what you were looking for.

that is exactly my problem. If i go to the Histogram section and select "Diameter" as Attribute for the X-axis i only can choose "Number of particles" for the Y-axis Attribute (there i want to use the Mass as Y-axis attribute.

Because i want to see what amount of mass the particle fraction from e.g. 3-5(diameter) has.

Hi Marc,
The histogram in the Analyst only plots total numbers. To get the fraction that you want you first plot the histogram then you right click on it to export it as a text file. Once that's done you can use any other software (like Excel) to calculate the mass fraction in the 3-5 mm size class.

Dear Renan,

thank you again for your quick reply and your help. Until today i was not able to try your solution. Luckily when i was just about to try what you suggested, i found what i was looking for. When entering the analyst and click on "File" move to "Export", you will be shown the dropdown menu as displayed in the picture

That function "Breakage Particle Size Distribution" actually is exactly what i was looking for.

Just wanted to let you know. :-)
