Hi, is it possible to limit the displacements of a translational joint between two values? for example that between +-5mm stroke.

Regards

Daniele

    Hi Daniele,

There is more than one way this could be done.  I'll list two here.....

One option could be to define a BISTOP.  Define a force (Action-reaction, Line of Action translational) between two markers as shown in sketch. Under Trans Properties, use an Expression to define a BISTOP function (see MS HELP for full explanation of function).  The behavior of the stop is similar to what you get if you were to use a general 3d contact between parts, except in this case it is between two points.

Another option is to define a dummy part representing a stop (ground it or fix it to an adjacent part).  Or have the physical geometry (CAD) that represents the stop, as shown in sketch. Locate the part at the proper distance that represents the limits, and then add a general 3d contact between the dummy part and moving part.  Using 3D contact can add more prep and solve time, but makes the modeling of these types of scenarios very simple.

    Hope this helps!
