What parameters can be changed after particle generation?
Hi.
I would like to analyze the impact of particle and geometry parameters on the results. After performing calculations for a certain period, I want to output the results with SimulationDeck and continue the analysis by changing the parameters.
However, I am aware that there are parameters, such as Solid density, that do not reflect changes in values.
Please let me know which parameters are reflected in changes and which parameters are not reflected when you modify them after generating particles.
Thanks

Hi Shinichiro,
All particle material properties except the solid density and all particle interaction and physics properties can be modified after particle generation.
If you need to change the particle density after generation you can do so by modifying the particle template mass in the .h5 files but this is not supported and may be unsafe.
Best regards,
Stefan

Hi Stephan,
I was surprised to learn that almost all particle material properties, interactions, and physical characteristics can be modified. I'm glad that the method I was hoping for seems possible.
Thank you for your response.

Hi, Stefan
According to what I tried,
Although it was possible to change the particle radius, contact radius, and Fixed velocity on/off using Creator, it was not reflected in the particles that had already been generated.Perhaps the behavior differs depending on the version of EDEM. (I used EDEM2022)
If you know of any other parameters that are not reflected, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.
Best Regards,
Shinichiro

Hi Shinichiro,
All particle material properties except the solid density and all particle interaction and physics properties can be modified after particle generation.
Particle shape properties like sphere radius, number and position cannot be changed after particle creation. This also means that particle moments of inertia cannot be altered after creation as the density, size and shape are fixed.
There is a workaround for the sphere radius using the EDEM applications programming interface. Please see this example that includes particle growth:
The global fixed velocities should update after generation if you are fixing them using the particle limits in the physics section.
Best regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Thank you for your reply.I apologize as I seem to have misunderstood.
I understand that the shape characteristics of particles cannot be changed.Best regards,
Shinichiro
