Hello, i am just using hyperworks for one year, i was doing meshing for one year and now concentrating on analysis. I have doubt about control cards, actually what is control cards and what is the usage of control cards. Help me to know these.

Control card entities are used to create solver control cards such as results file I/O options, CPU and memorylimits, and others. A solver interface template must be loaded which defines control cards in order to create andedit control cards. Hi Dani,

Nice to hear that you are exploring more on HyperWorks.

Control card entities are used to create solver control cards such as results file Input/Output options, CPU and memory limits, and other inputs that is  required to complete the analysis.

Please go through a basic analysis tutorial on OptiStruct where you will understand more on the parameters in the control cards.

Thank you for the support and the information you provided, But actually i am not completely understood ,maybe because all these are a type of terms and words using here. I would like to know the control cards usage with a practical example like for a component need material and for that material it has some properties so we creating properties. And also for a single analysis there using more than 2 control cards and each has some values given inside. So please help me to understand completely what control cards are. I mostly thinking everything practically so i can easily understand and explain to others too. Each step has its reason,so answer of 'why' i would like to know.

    Dani

    Hi,

Control cards are some things that will control the solver!

Solvers are some things that will process data

Data are 'normal cards' like PSHELL, MAT1, LOAD, SPC, ....

Thinking you have a stove (solver) and you want to cook a hot dog (data)

your stove has a button to adjust heat (control solver), so use it to make a well-done, not to burn your data !

    That was interesting, Thank you :D/emoticons/default_biggrin.png' srcset='/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x' title=':D' width='20' />

For every analysis should use control cards?

    Hi,

not all cases need a control cards, depend on what you want solver to do.

most of control cards will control output, you can search in reference help optistruct for cards in analysis>controlcard> GLOBAL_OUTPUT_REQUEST

example you want to output forces at SPC, activate SPCF control card

    Thank you for this ,

For linear static analysis we have output force at SPC, so we have to add SPCF?

For example i am doing ANALYSIS OF A COMPOSITE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE USING PCOMPG. Its from the tutorial, and in this analysis using 4 type of control cards, SCREEN,PARAM,FORMAT, GLOBAL_OUTPUT_REQUEST. Its a symmetric structure so the half section is taken and contraint. The images i have atached is the control cards and the model. For what this four CONTROL CARDS are used here? Please let me know so that i can understand more clearly.

    Dani

    Hi,

you can find for meaning of control cards in menu Help> Altair Help Home > Reference Guide > Optistruct

type name of control card in 'Index' tab

note that GLOBAL_OUTPUT_REQUEST is not a solver card name
