Lattice structures
Hi,
A few days ago Optistruct 13.0.210 has been released. Is there any tutorial on how to optimize a solid part with lattice elements? There's a 3D printing student competition with a deadline on 2015 March 31st and I would like to apply with an optimized component.
Thank You

Hi,
Please download the pdf tutorial and model file (rename model file to .hm).

I followed the tutorial, Optistruct even finished the job with 'feasible design', but there were no new *.fem file named 'jobname_lattice.fem'. Could you take a look at my 'aa.fem' file why doesn't it produces a new fem file after running?
Thank You

Hi,
can you upload the file to my dropbox instead?
our servers block external sharing sites. so please use the dropbox link in the signature below.

I uploaded it to your Dropbox.

Hi,
I have the file with me.
I will check and get back to you /emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' width='20' height='20'>

Hi,
Lattice optimization can be used only with solid elements.
In your model you have only shell elements.

I used 'Lattice_Starter_01.hm' you uploaded, and this was the *.fem file Optistruct exported. How is that possible it converted the solid elements to shell?

I have no idea how the model you received is shown on the picture, as I used the model you uploaded for me at the beginning, but now I created a new, simple model and I uploaded it to your dropbox with 'bracket lattice' subject.
Please check my model, I have the very same problem: there is no other *.fem file created after I run 'bracket_export.fem' with Optistruct. Could there be some problem with the adding of 'LATTICE 1 0.050 0.80' row as mentioned in the 12. page of the tutorial pdf?

Thank you very much, now it works:)
Can you tell me how to export the component to an *.stl file? When I try to export it says '5640 elements not defined in the template.'

I still don't know how to export to *.stl, but I realized I have to use OSSmooth first. I tried it, but when I run OSSmooth, it also displays an error: 'Invalid input file or command. Please check logfile' How can I make it work?

Hi,
there is no way to export a lattice optimized structure for now. Our developers are working on it and I hope some feature to export lattice strcuture to .stl will be available for 3D printing /emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' width='20' height='20'>

Hi,
since i'm about to start a lattice optimization, i wanted to ask whether there is any news on the geometry export of optimized lattice structures? is it possible to export it somehow (iges, stl, ...)?
thank you!
Michael

Hi Prakash,
I have an issue with the line ' LATTICE 1 0.050 0.80 '
Can you share the final file for the example.Regards,
Prasad

Hi,
I dont have a model at the moment, but you can see the LATTICE settings in the attached.

Thanks,
I got it to run and generate the fem file. The issue was with copying that line from the pdf document. It wouldn't copy the spaces.
Do you have any other documentation on the type of lattice structures possible ?
Regards,
Prasad

Prasad,
I will check and update forward the same to you soon.

Hello,
I have been playing with the lattice structures optimization tool of Optistruct since it was initially released. I am currently using version 14. Is there any way to export it in this release?
Thank you

I also would like to know how to export them. Especially, how are the diameters of the different beams optimized?
And is there a tutorial for the Hyperworks 14 lattice optimization feature?

I also would like to know if there are any Hyperworks 14 lattice tutorials (or any to come in the future)?
Could you please explain the differences between HyperMesh 13 and 14 in terms of lattice creation and how you go about using the new features?

Ok, thank you, but is there a method to export the lattice grid as GEOMETRY?

HI,
There is no direct method to export to a printable format. Such an option is under development.
Interfacing with 3-MaticSTL by Materilise may help for now.

I'm having difficulty with the steps on slide 14. I can't find the Optistruct GUI as I am using the student version, and if I just edit the file, save it and press optistruct on the analysis tab, it doesn't give me a lattice structure. Can you help?

Make sure the run option is set to Optimization instead of Analysis as shown in the image:

I tried to do this, and it didn't work. I opened the .fem file and added the LATTICE1 card, then saved it. Then set the input file as lattice_01.fem. It asks me to overwrite the file and I click yes. But after it runs, it doesn't create a jobname_lattice.fem file. I then changed the input file name as lattice_01_lattice.fem to try to change this. I pressed Optistruct, looked at the file, which didn't give me the lattice beams, then re-ran the file, which didn't give me anything new.
I did notice that I keep getting this note on the output file,
NOTE # 7500
DOPTPRM, POROSITY is valid with lattice optimization only.
Optimization problem is set to regular topology. Is this the problem?

Ok it works now. I ended up directly using the lattice option in the topology optimization card, and it works perfectly fine.

Hi,
Any update concerning the exporting problem with lattices structures ? Is it still not possible to export an optimized lattices structures to an STL file (or STEP or IGES before converting it to STL)
Moreover does someones have any informations concerning the 3 types of structures supported by HyperWorks ? Tutorial would be perfect
Regards,
Quentin.
