Hi friends,

I have a plug welded plate. ( At the center there is a plug and a cracktube outside the plug ) . Now I want to make a stud so that the plug welded plate becomes the stud welded plate , with everything else being the same. The plug in my old model was tapered. What I have done is

1) I hide all the components except plug. Then using Tools->face command, I selected the plug and

Now faces was being sown in the specification tree under components option.

2) I wanted the stud to be like welded on to the pate. So I selected 2D drag option . Selected the elements in the bigger circle of the tapered plug using window selection method. The tolerance was 0.01. I didn't change it. The stud was made.

It was the 'faces' link under components. But he trouble was that, the elements in the plate beneath the bigger circle till the smaller circle were also there in the stud.

3) So as you see, the older plug was getting a duplicate in the stud form. So I deleted older plug and renamed the 'faces' as the name of the older plug. Material properties of the older plug was associated with the stud. I made an input , took it to Abaqus and applied load and BC. But it does not give me an .odb file or an .fil file.

4) Can you tell me where I went wrong. Should I have done 3D drag instead of 2D drag ? Should the tolerance be 0 while dragging ? Should any other feature like skin has to be made while making the stud ? I couldn't understand that , even though I selected the elements of the plug on the top surface , why bottom surface elements and those in between two surfaces were also getting into the drag feature as 'faces' (i.e stud ) . Please please help me.

I have around 133 different cases to be done before 31st December as the final post processing software FEA Crack will expire by that date. I have tried my best. Asked everyone whom I know. Hope someone who knows Hypermesh a lot better will answer me soon.

Rahul.

    Rahulhere,

Did you solve this problem? If not, it would be helpful to post a screen shot to help explain what your problem is. From what I am reading it sounds like you may be creating elements in the current component which is not displayed? Or perhaps you were dragging all of the faces of the stud instead of just the faces of the stud you wanted to drag out solid elements?

Also, the ^faces component does not get exported.
