Composite Shell with variable layers

Hallo everybody,

is it possible to create a composite Shell Element with variable layers? I had already found the '/PROP/TYPE11 - Sandwich Shell Property Set' but the problem is that this property only supports material law 25 and 27. I would like to build a shell with three layers, two of them definied by material law 25 and the third definied by an user material (law 29).

In the discription of prop/type11 is written that the property also supports user laws but this seems not to be true.

Can anyone help me?

    Hi Rahul,

    thanks for the answer. Do you mean I have to write a user material to define a composite shell with variable layers?

    Hi Fabian,

    Currently TYPE 11 has a limitation and supports only one material.

    one can define different materials in the individual plys, but it must be the same material law.

    Or else you can use TYPE 17 and TYPE 19 property to use different material laws.

    hi user,

             please create individual plies (Material>>Create>>Ply) as your requirement (number, thickness, orientation, material) and after that create a laminate similar way and arrange the plies accordingly as you need. update plies with ur required material.....

    hope this works,

    One more question. I create the plys and a laminate. But how can I assign the laminate to an component/element?

    Hi Fabian,

    You can use TYPE10 property PROP/SH_COMP or TYPE9 for PROP/SH_ORTHO

    if you want to create a ply and laminate, use TYPE 19 to create ply and TYPE 17 for stack.

    Ok,

    lets start from the beginning, because the advises her are all not working for me.

    What I want to do:

    Create a shell element with multiple layers with different thicknesses. Also the different layer should be out of different material laws (M1_Elast, user material).

    What I try and why it did not work:

    • /PROP/TYPE11 (SH_SANDW) --> Works only with Material Laws 15, 25, 27, 36, 72 and user laws

    • /PROP/TYPE10 (SH_COMP) --> Works only with constant layer thickness

    • /PROP/TYPE9 (SH_ORTHO) --> Works only with one layer

    • /PROP/TYPE19 (ply) in combination with /PROP/TYPE17 (stack) --> Works only with Material Laws 25, 27, 36, 60 and user laws

    The restrictions about the materials was found in the HyperWorks Manual. I do not try to create the propertys 11 abd 17/19 with other materials. Can anyone tell me if these restricitions are still true?

    Mybe anyone have an idea how to solve these problem?

    One idea of mine was to create ply's and laminates over 'right click in the model three on the left' > create > ply/laminate. The ply's and laminates created like this are no property types. But I do not know the difference between these ply/laminate creation and the 'property'-ply/laminate creation. Can anyone tell me the difference?

    I hope everybody now unstands what is my problem and which methods are not working for me and why.

    Hi Fabian,

    Yes, the compatibility restrictions are true.

    Not all material models are compatible with all the property types in RADIOSS.

    Regarding Card image when creating ply/laminate from Model Browser, I will check and update to you image/emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' width='20' height='20'>

    ok. I did as you said but in defined ply I cannot see card image  which property I must select p17 or p19 (in property card I defined 19 as card image)
