Composite failure

Hello,

I am simulating a three point bending test for a composite laminate layup and I would like to find the force require for failure or alternatively a method of obtaining the point at which any specific ply has failed under the application of a specific force?

Many thanks,

Ahmed Gehad

    Ahmed,

Given that there are so many strength values in composites like tensile strenght in x, shear in xy, compression in .... etc

the usual procedure seems to me to be to first specify a failure theory, tsai wu , hill etc in the property definition itself , pcomp for instance,

then you would output the cstress, (which will give you the composite failure indices) and param > srcomps to see the failure results,

In which case should I use Max. failure theory?

Hi Newbie, According to this theory, Failure occurs when the response stress reaches Ultimate stress in longitudinal/ultimate stress in transverse or ultimate shear stress.
