In hypermesh tutorial 'OS-1090: Linear Transient Heat Transfer Analysis of an Extended Surface Heat Transfer Fin' , a Node, ID No. 5672 is defined.

How this node is created & what is the significance of this Node, how Node position is decided.

    shanky456,

You can create this node from the nodes panel,

This node is then applied the SPCD that is used to define the ambient temperature for the solver,

This node can be anywhere outside the body and in the environment, its function is to define the ambient temperature and its location will not make any difference to your results. Please try the same and let us know

Thanks for the reply sir. I am working on a brake disc model in which I want to carry out transient thermal analysis and I have proceeded in the same manner as given in the tutorial but I am not getting anything in the results in spite being that the system is showing job is completed and there is no error. Sir I want to share my model with you for you to check if its possible for you. Please provide a way, either your e mail address or any other thing as I am hesitant to provide model on the forum. Please help. Thanks

Sir I have shared the .hm file with you. Please check that I have given all load collectors and load steps as in the tutorial.

Delete the material definition and recreate the material using just mat4 card and not mat1.

The card image of the card should be mat4 alone, enter the parameters and run the analysis.

I see there are meaningful element flux results and the grid temperatures (varies very little for your analysis) when you do that.

Thanks for the reply sir. Please also tell me about what is the unit system followed in Hypermesh. My model was in mm and as per the video tutorial provided on Altair's site units are either SI or mm-t-s or mm-kg-ms. In that it was given that mass to be taken in tonnes, time in sec, force in N. Here but we have to use Joule and Watt also in Specific heat and Watt comes in heat transfer coefficient. These are however J=Nm and W=J/s. In the above mentioned tutorial only m was converted to mm and W and J are taken as it is. Please tell what units we should follow.

I have done the same simulations in ANSYS Workbench and there are results are coming all right. I am sharing the picture of the results in ANSYS (sent by ishan.aggarwal1987@gmail.com). Probably we are making some mistake in units because of that these results are not coming right.

Units we used are - Thermal Conductivity in W/mm degreeC

Specific Heat in J/Kg degree C

Heat Transfer Coeff in W/mm2 degree C

                                    Rho - kg/mm3

                                    Flux - W/mm2

In tutorial kg was taken as it is so we have taken kg only. However there is a ambiguity between what was given in video tutorial (has mass in tonnes) and in tutorial.

    Hi

    Confirm your unit here

    http://www.altairhyperworks.com/hwhelp/Altair/hw12.0/help/hwsolvers/hwsolvers.aspx?bulk_data_format.htm

    or think yourself:  m=1000mm => J=N.m = N.1000mm=1000.Nmm

    so if energy is 10J => enter into hypermesh 1000*10 = 10000

    Hello,

I am also doing the same Kind of Analysis for Transient Heat Transfer: I have higher Temp. on the Top of my Profile  and lower side I have less. I have to make conduction heat Transfer Analysis. I already follow example : OS.1090.....

May I give my ambient temp to my whole Profile?

secondary, I got error like A dependent d.o.f. of grid elements is constrained in a SPC Set.

Is it necessary when we have two TLOAD entries for flux and ambient temp then we have to Combine them with DLOAD?

    Thank you,

    Regards,

    Jay Nayak

May I give my ambient temp to my whole Profile?

Do you mean to the inner surface/side as well?

secondary, I got error like A dependent d.o.f. of grid elements is constrained in a SPC Set.

Make sure you have Unchecked the Dofs.

My main Concern is, I have to give Higher temp flux on the top side and on the bottom side lower flux and apply conduction criterias.... My Analysis is also Transient.....  so I have follow OS-1090 example. with only one load step Transient Heat Transfer. Now I didnt understand here How Ambient Temp works? as I want conduction I have to give on the top surface so heat can Transfer from higher temp to Lower?

Secondary I have error regarding A dependent d.o.f. of rigid elements is constrained... I already unchecked the Dofs...

Before someone already gave contact Surface Inputs on my geometry... with surf Card... should I remove? Because those are using in Group for Contact Interfaces...

    Hello Prakash Pagadala

I have tried heat transfer analysis by using this tutorial.

OS-1090: linear Transient Heat Transfer of an extended surface heat surface.

now am simulating my model at a very high temperature. so I want to incorporate the radiation also as heat transferring medium.

is there any way to do it? Please suggest me the tutorial in Altair? or else procedure for that.

My agenda is to heat at one corner of the plate and I want to see the heat transfer with respect conduction, convection, and radiation.

I am attaching my basic file here.

    Vijay

    Thank You.

    Hi Vijay,

The procedure is same as the tutorial which you reviewed. Do you see anything wrong with the results?

    Hi @Prakash Pagadala,

Is it possible to do radiation heat transfer in Optistruct?

    Thank you

Radiation is not yet supported in OptiStruct. You can consider conduction and convection.

Error is self explanatory in the the out file after run. Please specify scale of 1.0 in the DLOAD card with loadcollector name CombinedFluxAndConvectionLoad.
