Question on Optistruct and Radioss Solvers

Hi,

I am a new user of Radioss. I have used optistruct for few projects so far. I have a question regarding the two solvers.

As part of learning Radioss (Linear), I have solved some beam problems and some vibration problems. While doing so, I found that all the analysis problems that I solved in Radioss (Linear) could be solved in Optistruct (analysis).

My question is, why should we have two solvers that does the same thing? However, I understand that Radioss is useful in non-linear analysis. But my question is about Linear analysis.

Many thanks,

A-run

    Hi,

actually this is the same solver (Bulk format as common input syntax). To a certan extend you can view it like this:

OptiStruct = Radioss + optimization capabilities.

So if your intention is doing linear (or non-linear) FE analysis only, you would use Radioss. But from a running Radioss model, it is only a few steps to setup an optimization problem. For that you would use OptiStruct (which is still FE based).

    Regards,

    Hettel,

That was very useful. Thank you very much.

I would rather stick with optistruct even for simple analysis (linear) and use Radioss exclusively for non-linear. Just to avoid asking questions to myself.

    Many thanks,

    Arun
